A Time for Family - 2 Legged and 4 Legged
A letter from Dr. Goodman...
With summer gone and the holidays fast approaching
I reflect back on those warm summer months and the
great trips and special moments I had with my family.
One great trip I had was with my oldest daughter,
Jenny. We had the opportunity to take a father -
daughter trip to Europe which was great, especially
considering that this was the first year that Jenny
was away at college and it was so nice to have the
time together to catch up. We spent most of our
time hiking in the German, Austrian, and Italian Alps
with side trips to the big cities of Munich, Salzburg,
and Venice. The highlight list is too long to go into
here, but tops on that list is definitely the quality,
and quantity, time spent bonding with Jenny.
Jenny is back in Colorado at college and our younger
daughter, Sarah is now in high school and far too
busy with homework and leadership activities during
the week (and with friends on the weekends) to
spend much time with mom and dad. Ten to fourteen
hour days tend to be the norm for me. Pam
continues to help out wherever and whenever
needed in the practice, most of the time working
harder then I do!
Like so many, our lives seem to be almost a blur. As
the holidays fast approach I am reminded that family
gatherings around the holidays mean so much to me.
It's easy to get caught up in all the hoopla
surrounding the holidays, but more then anything,
they should be a time to slow down and spend time
together with those most important to us. This
precious time, of course, includes our 4 legged family
members as well. Pets love the holidays as much as
we do - and for the same reasons! They too, love
having the family around more, and of course the
food doesn't hurt either! Zoey, our 5 year old Golden
Retriever also loves the opportunity to cross country
ski with the family and open her own gifts under the
tree. The cats, who miss Jenny as much as we do,
love to share her bed and become reacquainted
when she comes back home.
If you haven't seen it, I recommend Adam Sandler's
newest movie, "Click". In the manner of "It's a
Wonderful Life" and nestled in between Sandler's
typical 5th grade humor, are important lessons for all
of us: appreciate and enjoy the time with our
families, and live life in the present, enjoy the now!
We hope you take the time over the busy holidays to
spend time with and honor your family, both 2 and 4
legged. We wish happiness and health to you and
your family in the New Year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Laird Goodman

Murrayhill Adoption Program
A Home for the Holidays!
Murrayhill Veterinary Hospital takes in stray and
unwanted cats, gives them medical attention,
deworming, Felv/FIV testing, Bartonella testing, flea
control, vaccinations, microchips for identification
and spays and neuters adoptees prior
to finding them homes. We currently have 3 cats for
adoption.
Caesar is a handsome 3 legged cat that
came to us with a severe fracture of his hind leg. We
amputated at the fracture site and he recovered
with Loni, one of our technicians at her home.
Unfortunately her cat did not get along with him and
we must find him a home. He is a 7 year old domestic
shorthair that is very mellow and easy going and he
likes to talk. Can you find room in your home for this
amputee?
Leonard was found in the street after being
hit by a
car. Our brave assistant Kristin picked him up
(sustained a couple of bites to her upper arm) and
brought him to the clinic where he received
emergancy care and pain medication. He had an
injured eye, superficial injuries and a fractured pelvis.
He is the sweetest boy and just loves to be petted
and held. He
is getting along well and his fractures are healing.
Now all he needs to finish his fairy tale story
is a wonderful home for the holidays.
Miss Daphne, a 10 year old female is making
herself
comfortable at Murrayhill. She is a very shy and
quiet. She has been with us for 2 years now. If
anyone has a special quiet home for Daphne, please
contact our adoption coordinator, Cindy.
